how to eat a noodle

Did you ever wonder how to properly eat your very long soba noodles? My niece showed me how while they were visiting this past week. In fact, we went to Mitsuwa twice while they were here, because she liked the noodles so much (it had nothing to do with the fact that we loved the sushi and the bookstore and all the other fun little things you can get there). There’s no sound in the movie, but you get the idea.

This is mostly for my parents, who are not able to see their grandchildren for a year:

christmas cheer

I started my Christmas decorating this weekend, and made a little wreath:
Wreath1106 Wreath21106
I also got out my glitter and had a little fun. You can’t see it in the picture very well, but I covered the little white bird on the wreath with clear glass glitter. The wreath itself is just sheet moss and reindeer moss and two berry picks from the craft store (on sale for 99 cents each!). I like the simplicity of it, although Mr. Lucy, who thinks bigger is always better, kept suggesting that I make it fluffier. Since this one is on the guest house, I guess I can make him a big, fat, fluffy one for the front door. It’s all about compromise at our house.

I also made some joy garlands for the shop:
Greenjoy1 Greenjoy2
I made this green one, a blue one, a pink one and a clear one. They were all made using vintage book pages, which I think gives them a nice patina. They’ll be just $10, but once they’re gone, that’s it. I’m not making any more. I’ll be finding glitter for the next two months as it is after having these laying all over the place waiting for the glue to dry. They are fun to make, but there are a lot of steps involved, each of which involves a period of waiting for the glue to dry.

Speaking of the shop, a kind person, who’s name starts with ‘F’ bought one of my little totebags, so this little package is on it’s way across the pond:
Bluef
I think I may get a small live tree this year, so we can plant it in the yard when we’re done. I always feel so guilty tossing out a dead dry tree every year. Either that or I’ll invest in an artificial tree.

what i did tuesday night

I’m a homebody. I like to plan my weekends so I leave the house as little as possible. But I do love music, and even homebodies have to have some fun out on the town once in a while. So I stayed out late on a school night this week:
Concert
I was paying for it the next day, but it was oh so worth it. My friend Naz invited me along. I’m really more of an indie/alternative rock kind of person, with a little blues and bluegrass thrown in. I thought he might be a little too ‘pop’ for me, but he just rocked the house. And see how we’re on row 8? There was no row 8, we were on the floor, general admission, so you better believe we were right there against the railing. The yellow bit is my wristband. There was even a cover of The Pixie’s ‘Where is my Mind’, which was totally awesome. Okay, enough geeking out for me for one post.

Etsy is back up and running, and all my new goodies are added to my shop, with more to come, hopefully in the next few weeks. So go do a little Christmas shopping. Even if you don’t buy from me, handmade gifts are always good.

I also found out that Cary‘s song will be in the November 30th episode of Men in Trees. You’ll probably be watching Grey’s Anatomy, so just leave the TV on the same channel when it’s over and watch it!

I got brave and entered my guest room in the Apartment Therapy color contest. I would love it if you took a minute and voted :o) I have no delusions about being a finalist, but I’d love to get a copy of the Apartment Therapy book. There are some really lovely rooms in the contest, and the style of mine is so different, I’m not sure anyone is going to like it. Okay. Thanks!

Tomorrow is another chicken portrait day, they’re getting so big! I have to get a bigger feeder, the little piglets are emptying it completely twice a day, and it’s just not possible for me to fill it more often since I’m at work all day. A couple of them are starting to cluck rather than cheep. My girls are growing up. Sniff!
